A working culture where everyone feels encouraged and able to contribute and speak up will naturally lend itself to improved safety which we know to be a critical factor on board the global shipping fleet. Working environments that provide psychological and physical safety are not only the right thing to do but facilitate greater employee engagement and retention, both being essential to the future of the shipping industry.
Currently, there is no global data available that offers a detailed insight into current levels of diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging on board ships. Through the Seafarer DEIB Data Gathering and Benchmarking Initiative, members will be able to:
Data gathered anonymously through a third party provides people with a safe space in which to speak up. In order to address the challenges outlined above, we believe this data will play a vital role in equipping organisations and the industry with the statistics to support long term change and development.
What does it entail:
- Members seafaring employees anonymously complete the DSG annual DEI survey (available to complete from January-September)
- Members access results for their own organisation and the aggregate results across the industry through an online business intelligence dashboard to enable benchmarking, reporting and strategy development
- Priority registration access to the DEI in Maritime conference
- A half day in person DEI focus session annually for all members
- Further analysis and deep dives can be supported by the DSG
